Surrounded by calm woodland slopes and with views of the River Conwy, this country house offers peace, quiet and natural beauty in Snowdonia. Craig-y-Dderwen is a traditional hotel, just 5-10 minutes’ walk from the centre of Betws-y-Coed, a small and popular village in North Wales. With free parking and a quiet location away from the main road, this is an excellent place to relax and plan your stay in Snowdonia National Park. Most rooms have beautiful views of either the Conwy Valley or the flowing river. The Riverside Restaurant also overlooks the river and offers AA Rosette-quality cuisine. A choice of bars means you can either relax beside a real log fire, or overlook the 16 acres of hotel grounds.
Privately owned, the traditional values of courtesy and service are strong at the Craig-y-Dderwen. The hotel was built in 1890 as a private house and was converted to a hotel in the early 1920s. During World War II it was used for secret operations by the British Ministry of Defence. Edward Elgar, the famous composer, spent much time here relaxing on the riverbank and enjoying the views, which are mostly the same since that time.
